This annotation outlines how I have displayed an ability to meet the necessary requirements for Standard 5, Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning, in relation to 5.2.1 and my ability to provide feedback to students on their learning.

On my recent practicum, I provided my students with consistent verbal feedback on their work in class whilst implementing a weekly routine of providing students with specific written feedback on their written work. Every Thursday, my year 10 students would undergo a writing task specifically related to the unit and the content we had covered that week. On Monday, I would return this work to the students with specific feedback attached. Student Sample 1 offers an example of this process. During the week, students had explored the concept of characterisation in our specific novel and were thus asked to produce a piece of creative writing that focused on building character. In the sample, I provide two pieces of specific positive feedback, a good use of adverbs and effective description of thoughts and feelings. I then provide more specific feedback on an area of improvement encouraging more description of the characters appearance and I direct the student to a specific opportunity in their writing where they could do so. My ability to provide timely, specific and appropriate feedback to students (5.2.1) is further reflected in my supervising teachers comments in Lesson Observation 10.9. In this evidence, my supervising teacher comments on positive effects of my routine that provides students with consistent ‘meaningful’ feedback. She also observed that during this period I consistently offered verbal feedback to all students as they progressed through the work. Beyond this, I displayed ‘excellent’ feedback when I called on specific students to share, to which I provided them with specific strengths and weaknesses of their work.

My ability to effectively provide feedback to my students on their learning is further reflected in myProfessional Experience 2 Report, in which my supervising teacher states that I provided timely and detailed written feedback to my students as well as offering verbal feedback.

This selected evidence demonstrates that I have competently provided timely and appropriate feedback to my students on their learning (5.2.1) and have thus displayed the necessary skills to achieve Standard 5.
