Standard 7

This annotation displays how I have demonstrated the necessary skills to meet Standard 7, Engage Professionally with Colleagues, Parents/Cares and the Community, with specific reference to 7.1.1 and my ability to demonstrate key principles described in the Code of Conduct and Statement of Ethics for teachers. This annotation will look specifically at my ability build professional relationships with employees and children, young people and students (Code of Conduct 22, Statement of Ethics).

On my Professional Experience placements I took it upon myself to engage professionally with the wider school community by observing teachers across multiple faculties, coaching the school netball team and assisting in year group meetings. In all situations, I acted professionally to build strong and meaningful relationships with students and staff (Code of Conduct 22, Statement of Ethics).

My ability to act professionally and build relationships with fellow staff was reflected in my Professional Experience 2 Report, in which my supervising teacher writes that I conducted myself with outstanding professionalism at all times. This report also comments on my success in building professional relationships with staff in her comments that state I worked consistently in a highly collegial manner. This evidence displays my ability to build professional relationships with staff members (Code of Conduct 22).

My ability to build professional and strong relationships with my students is shown in the goodbye note written by one of my students on my previous practicum. In the note, the student refers to me as MissZolezzi and focuses on how my teaching has impacted them personally. They comment on how the novel I was teaching them is now ‘the best book ever’, displaying how I acted within my role as an educator to form a relationship with them that was based on content. This note offers further evidence that I have displayed an ability to build professional and lasting relationships with my students (statement of ethics).

This evidence shows my ability to build professional relationships with employees and students in a way that aligns with the Code of Conduct and Statement of Ethics for teachers. Comments from my Professional Experience 2 Report reveal that I have conducted myself professionally at all times appropriately to build relationships. This reveals that I have confidently understood and applied some of the key principles outlined in the Code of Conduct and Statement of Ethics for teachers and have thus met the requirements for Standard 7.
